Cutest pug in Austin, and perhaps the world

Suzi and I love to take photos of our dog Murphy. He’s a five(?) year old pug we adopted from the local pug rescue group. Pugs are hyper ophthalmic, which is a fancy way of saying “bug eyed” (“pug eyed”), and like many pugs, Murphy has somehow injured one of those giant, vulnerable peepers. Despite this conical scar, he’s a real cutie and very photogenic. We’ve created several stock photos of our little guy, and he’s busy earning royalties.

The Austin-American Statesman is currently running a contest for pug photos, so I submitted a few of our snaps. You can (and should!) vote for Murphy by clicking here and finding his photos in the slideshow.

These were shots we had ruled out as stock photos, because they were either taken at high ISO or they had motion blur issues. (They’re still cute, though, and more than adequate technically for an amateur photo contest.) This close-up was taken at ISO 3200 on the Canon 5D Mark II. True to the marketing claim, this camera handles noise at high sensitivity heroically.

Pugs are an amazing breed. They are the nicest dogs you could ever own. Anyone that has ever met mine just loves him.
